From the Heritage Auctions auction:
John Berkey King Kong Poster Painting Original Art (1990). This painting
is the second version of Berkey's famous "King Kong vs. the Snake." In 1990,
when Berkey was putting together the art that would be included
in his first art book, John Berkey: Painted Space, Universal Studios was
contacted to license two of Berkey's King Kong images for use in the book.
The first was the image of Kong on the World Trade Center and the second was
this—the image of Kong fighting the snake. It was extremely important
to Berkey to have this image included in his art book because it was his
favorite of the Kong images that he created. (See the text in the book for
Berkey's commentary about it). Unfortunately, at that time, Universal did
not have any film to reproduce from of that image, so Berkey, insistent
that this painting be included in the book, excitedly decided to repaint
the image. He had always wanted to change a few things to the painting,
such as adding more color and motion, and now he had his chance. The end
result was that this painting was reproduced as a double-spread in his
art book, and Berkey was very proud of it. This painting has an image
area of 22.5" x 19", and the art is in Excellent condition.
