Dino de Laurentiis commissioned 500 two-feet-tall King Kong maquettes as
gifts to the film's cast, crew, and others. There is a series of photos of
Jessica Lange posing with one of the maquettes for LIFE magazine. One of those is below.
When these show up on auction sites these days, sellers tend to ask $2500 or
more for them. I've seen several such auctions, and the bases and plaques on
the bases seem to vary. I don't know if they originally had different bases,
or if some of them might be replacement bases added over the years. The
one shown below was auctioned by Heritage Auctions in 2024, and it doesn't
have a plaque at all.
Recipients apparently also received a two-page promotional newspaper, which
can also be seen below.
More info and speculation about these can be found in this
2011 blog post
on The Jaws Blog.

There were apparently some variant maquettes made! This maquette was sold at auction by
Heritage Auctions in July 2025. Their description and photos are below. You can also see
the page on the HA.com website.
King Kong (Paramount, 1976), Kong Maquette. Vintage original maquette of King Kong,
holding a commercial model helicopter, constructed from lightweight cast resin and
painted bronze, mounted on a wooden base. Designed by legendary effects artist Carlo
Rambaldi (Alien, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Silver Bullet), this was a rare crew gift,
with very few known to exist. The model helicopter was attached for display using
adhesive resin. Measuring approx. 26" x 21" x 7", with base measuring 10" x 10" x 3".
Exhibits light scuffing, age and the model helicopter blades are slightly loose with
light chipping at base.
