A collection of screen-worn original costume accessories created for Jessica
Lange in the role of Dwan in the big budget, modernized first remake of King
Kong (Dino De Laurentiis Company, 1976) as well as a piece of fur from the King
Kong costume worn by Rick Baker.
The collection of Dwan accessories includes: an intricate headdress (a head
cover and extension made with over 30 shells); a large, half-moon necklace made
of painted wood; an additional, smaller half-moon necklace made of shell; an
upper arm band made of woven straw; a necklace consisting of a strand of small
shells; two strands of beads, one short and one long; and a pair of sandals.
Most of these items can be seen being worn by Lange as Dwan is presented to
Kong, with the headdress being removed just before she is left tied up outside
the gates of the village. She continues to wear many of the costume pieces
during their tempestuous first night together, including the iconic scenes in
which he picks her up in his giant hand.
